The Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence and Marital Quality

Abstract


The aim of this research was to examine the direction and degree of the relationship between emotional intelligence and marital quality among spouses, i.e., to determine whether there is a correlation between emotional intelligence and marital quality. Furthermore, the research aimed to examine the predictive value of emotional intelligence in determining marital quality, i.e., to establish whether emotional intelligence is a positive or negative determinant of marital quality. The research was conducted on a sample of 130 participants (65 female and 65 male participants). The Sociodemographic Characteristics Questionnaire, the Emotional Competence Questionnaire (UEK-45), and the Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS) were used. Correlational and logistic regression analyses were applied as research methods. The results of the correlational analysis indicated a positive correlation between emotional intelligence and marital quality among spouses. The results of the logistic regression analysis showed that the emotional intelligence of spouses is a positive determinant of marital quality.
