The Idea of the Mediatory Nation in the Works of Alija Izetbegović and Its Relevance for the Contemporary World

Amir Mulaosmanović

Abstract

This paper attempts to shed light on Izetbegović’s general conceptual concept of man, society and state. In particular, it aims to show the train of thought that led Izetbegović to the conclusions about the establishment of his own ontological-epistemological discourse within Muslim geography and then its consequent positioning as a mediator in the then bipolar, and today polycentric world. Based on the written traces that remained after Izetbegović, this paper attempts to reconstruct his thought and place it in the context of contemporary social theory, which is increasingly gaining importance in the area of Muslim geography and beyond. In this sense, Izetbegović’s thought should be viewed in the context of reformist leadership and positioned alongside globally significant thinkers of the 20th century. In addition, issues such as the suffering of the Palestinian people, especially in the recent Zionist genocidal attacks on Gaza, accelerated the process of global ruination of linear hegemony and opened the door to different ideas about political systems, cooperation and the future.
